Making his first appearance in 1983, Orel began his Major League career with the Los Angeles Dodgers. His break out year came in ’88 when Hershiser pitched 5 consecutive shutout innings breaking Don Drysdale’s record 58-inning scoreless streak.  He received the National League Championship Series MVP, World Series MVP and Cy Young Award.
