Tin Roof Tango

Tin Roof Tango

Music: Bluegrass, Jazz, Cajun Dance and more

Tin Roof Tango's wide variety of musical styles and the multiple timbres join together with fast pacing and clever repartee to create a performance which appeals to a broad spectrum of ages and musical tastes.

The Big Acoustic World Show

Take five talented musicians, add over twenty five acoustic instruments and music from six continents, sprinkle on a bit of dance and a few corny jokes, and you have the recipe for Tin Roof Tango's Big Acoustic World Show. Featuring selections from South America, Africa, Australia, and the Orient, this ensemble entertains with music ranging from an Irish jig played on the banjo to a Bolivian melody that wafts from the kena. With a generous helping of American and Celtic music, Tin Roof Tango pours on Old Time fiddling, Cajun dance tunes, intense bluegrass, and Jazz ...all with that trademark Tin Roof Tango high energy, acoustic fusion sound.

"It's a pretty quirky concept," remarks leader Mark Shelton. Indeed, quirky and unique might come to mind as the five musicians strum, strike, blow, scrape, bow, pluck, and shake an assortment of more than two dozen instruments. The variety extends to the vocals as the audience is treated to songs in English, Spanish, Yoruba (W. Africa), Japanese, and Cajun French.

The World Music Show

Travel the globe as Tin Roof Tango combines music and social studies in this high energy musical tour of six continents. Students experience the tone colors of over twenty instruments ranging from the exotic South American kena and bombo to the dancing sound of the Celtic pennywhistle and fiddle. The amazing talents of this popular acoustic ensemble guide an exciting exploration of the musical and cultural landscape that includes the strains of Zydeco, Klezmer bulgars, African drumming, and Latin American music.

American Folk: Travelin' Music

Tin Roof Tango entertains and educates in a fast-paced program which gives students a sampling of music from the western hemisphere with primary focus on American music. The five musicians perform on acoustic instruments including hammered dulcimer, violin, banjo, pennywhistle, bodhran and mandolin. The arts-in-education program exposes students to a variety of music while enhancing the social studies curriculum. The Irish migration and its influence on American music, the journey of French-speaking people from Acadia to South Louisiana (Cajuns), and a brief display of contradancing are highlighted.
