Banda Kinkajou is a Salsa and Merengue band based in Dallas, Texas. It is a one-of-a-kind ensemble, mainly because it's a small band with a great sound.
The core of Kinkajou is composed by bandleader Edwin Garcia on keyboards and vocals and Ellie Segarra as lead vocalist and percussionist , both natives of Puerto Rico.
Garcia comes from a hard rock, funk, and Latin fusion background, which started in the 1960s and took him to the U.S. Air Force's Tops in Blues Show Orchestra. His additional military background in electronics engineering has been a major contribution to Kinkajou's impressive sound.
On his side, Segarra comes from a musical family (he is cousin to famed Salsa soloist Nino Segarra) and he is also proficient on the drums and the keyboards. He is a seven-year veteran of the Miami Tropical music scene, where he sang with One Way, a top Merengue band that opened shows for the likes of Tito Rojas, Marc Anthony, and India.
