THIS VERY UNIQUE SCHOOL DOES NOT HAVE A FOOT BALL TEAM; HOWEVER THE MARCHING BAND IS RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE BEST SHOW BANDS IN THE NATION.

The Big D Marching band, currently consisting of 205 people, has won 1st place at the Grambling University High School Battle of the Bands for 9 times in the past 10 years. This group received 1st place at the Dr. Pepper Classic Battle of Bands in Memphis, Tenn. 2004 and performed for the Southern Heritage Football Classic in the Liberty Bowl.

In addition, the Big D Marching Band has made appearances in the St. Patrick's Day parade, the national MLK parade in St. Petersburg, Florida, Neiman Marcus-Adolphus Christmas parade, just to mention a few. This group was one of the elite to perform in the 2004 Nokia Sugar Bowl in New Orleans, La.

The Big 'D' Band also received 1st division rating in the field show competition for the 2005 SBC Cotton Bowl Classic. It also has the honor of being the lead band for the AT&T's 2007 New Years' Eve Cotton Bowl Classic Parade. The band most recently participated in The Governor for a Day parade honoring Senator Royce West in Austin, Texas.

This band was selected as one of the top ten high school show bands in the U.S. and has won 1st place for the past two consecutive years at the Annual U.S. Army All-American Bowl and National Show Band Competition in San Antonio, Texas.

The Big D Marching band will also have the honor of giving a special performance at this year's Bowl game, January 6, 2007.
